Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged Kenyans in the Middle East to exercise extreme caution following a surge in hostilities across the region.
The advisory comes after Israeli and US forces launched attacks on Iran on Saturday morning, prompting retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting Israel and US military bases in Gulf countries.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mudavadi highlighted that the security situation remains volatile and warned that Kenyan citizens are exposed to increased risks, especially in areas near military installations and crowded public spaces.
He specifically advised Kenyans living in or travelling through Iran, Israel, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq to stay alert and prioritise personal safety.
“All Kenyan citizens in Iran, Israel, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia; Jordan, Iraq and surrounding areas are advised to remain alert and monitor official communication from host governments regarding travel and safety updates,” he said.
Mudavadi also urged citizens to comply with instructions issued by local security authorities and to stay informed through official channels.
He stressed that non-essential movement should be avoided, particularly in high-risk zones, and cautioned that the escalation could disrupt flights and airspace.
The Cabinet Secretary called on those who have not registered with the nearest Kenyan embassy to do so immediately, ensuring timely updates and assistance in emergencies.
He added that the government is actively monitoring the situation and maintains close contact with its diplomatic missions in the region, promising to share further updates as they become available.
This advisory underscores Kenya’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad amid a rapidly evolving security landscape in the Middle East.
